Women’s Lacrosse Achieves Decade Milestone with Dominant Victory at Sweet Briar

Guilford secures eighth win of the season, the program's highest mark since 2015

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Guilford College women's lacrosse team (8-7, 3-4 ODAC) made history Tuesday afternoon, putting together a clinical performance to defeat Sweet Briar College (0-12, 0-7 ODAC) 20-1 at Meyer Field. The match marks the Quakers' eighth victory of the year, the highest single-season win total for the program since 2015.

Marlene Nusraty (Damascus, Md.) earned the win in goal, recording two saves to anchor a defensive unit that held the Vixens scoreless for over 44 minutes of action. In the opposing crease, Larkin Shire tallied eight saves and five ground balls.

Sweet Briar's lone goal was scored by Lynsday Davis, who also corralled eight draw controls.

Guilford dominated the transition game, successful on all six clear attempts while forcing Sweet Briar into 16 turnovers.

The Quakers' offense was firing on all cylinders, led by a massive eight-point performance from Emma Garland (Hampstead, N.C.), who tallied three goals and a team-high five assists. Hannah McMasters (Browns Summit, N.C.) matched Garland's eight points, netting four goals alongside four helpers. Carm DeFeo (Shelton, Conn.) led all scorers with five goals, while Kylie Wood (Greensboro, N.C.) recorded a hat trick. Emily Parker (Lillington, N.C.) added two goals, as Chanelle Fossie (Westampton, N.J.) and Kennedy Gates (Cornelius, N.C.) each contributed a goal to the final tally.

The game also featured a milestone for Natalia Rubio (Greensboro, N.C.), who found the back of the net in the second quarter for her first goal of the season.

The Quakers wasted no time establishing control, exploding for 10 goals in the opening period. McMasters ignited the run just two minutes in, followed shortly by strikes from DeFeo, assisted by McMasters and Re'lla Grissett (Fayetteville, N.C.).

In the second quarter, the Guilford defense remained impenetrable, while the offense added five more goals. Rubio converted a free-position shot at the 7:55 mark to extend the lead, resulting in a 15-0 score at the break.

The third quarter saw DeFeo, McMasters, Wood, Fossie, and Parker all fire successful shots to reach the 20-goal mark. Sweet Briar finally broke through in the final minute of play, but the Quakers' early surge had already sealed the historic victory, 20-1.

Guilford returns home to Appenzeller Field for their final regular-season contest as they host Virginia Wesleyan University for Senior Day on Saturday, April 18th. The opening draw is set for 3:00 p.m.
