Goolsby, Ward Deliver Doubles Brilliance as Women's Tennis Sweeps Hollins

Quakers secure fifth conference victory with a commanding 6-0 decision

ROANOKE, VA. – The Guilford College women's tennis team (9-5, 5-3 ODAC) bounced back in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 6-0 shutout victory over Hollins University (0-11, 0-8 ODAC) at the Batten Tennis Center. The match marks the Quakers' fifth conference win of the 2026 season.

Doubles play set the tone early as Guilford swept all three positions to secure the opening point. LaNiya Ward (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Zara Goolsby (Greensboro, N.C.) were flawless in a 6-0 win over Sasha Mingo and Sadie Henshaw. Ashley Belnap (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Chandler Sizemore (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) followed suit with a commanding 6-1 victory, while the Quakers won by default at the No. 3 position.

At No. 1 singles, McKenna Merritt (Dobson, N.C.) handled business with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Brooke Tsuei (Summerfield, N.C.) delivered a perfect 6-0, 6-0 "double bagel" performance at the No. 2 flight, and Amy Soto Salgado (Conover, N.C.) secured a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3.

Ward remained sharp at the No. 4 spot, winning 6-2, 6-0; Goolsby closed out the scoring at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Henshaw.

The Quakers will return home to Greensboro on Saturday, April 18th, to host the University of Lynchburg. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
