RALEIGH, N.C. – Guilford College softball team (4-3-1, 0-0 ODAC) traveled to the state capital for a doubleheader against Meredith College (3-5, 0-0 USA South), avenging their previous outing through lights out hitting, unfortunately dropping a close one in the first contest, 3-2 in eight innings, before prevailing in game two, 5-4 on the back of
Morgan Singletary's (Laurel Hill, N.C.) game-clinching 3 RBI double on Wednesday afternoon at Meredith Softball Complex.

Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) drew her second start of the year in game one for Guilford, recording 7.1 innings while surrendering three runs, one earned, off six hits, striking out eight, but dropping a heartbreaker off an Avenging Angels walk off to fall to 1-1 on the season.

Lillie Davis would start the opening contest for Meredith in the circle, throwing all 8.0 innings pitched, giving up two earned runs, off a battering eleven hits, one walked, striking out one, and barely escaping with the victory to climb to 3-1 on the year.

Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) recorded her best performance at the plate this year, slashing 3-for-4, with one run, including a double in the first.
Morgan Singletary (Laurel Hill, N.C.) would follow suit with a 2-for-4 outing of her own, while
Kaylyn Little (Locust, N.C.) would drive in one in the second from her 1-for-4 performance.

Tess Spangenburg batted 2-for-3 for Meredith in game one, with a run, and the walk-off RBI. Morgan Knight displayed a solid outing for the Avenging Angels, logging 1-for-2 and an RBI throughout the opening contest.

Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) would open game two for the Quakers in the circle, recording a 5.0 inning showing, fumbling three runs, all earned, off five hits, four walks, and striking out one in the process.
Dillon Northen (Kernersville, N.C.) would enter in relief for Guilford, escaping a jam late in the seventh off a game-sealing double-play through 2.0 innings pitched, surrendering one earned run off two hits, earning the victory to advance to 3-0 overall.

Rhyleigh Horne was penciled in as the starter in the second contest for Meredith, logging 5.0 innings, giving up two runs off three hits and three walks. Lillie Davis entered for the second time in the duo of clashes, this time out of the bullpen, faltering late in the final clash through 2.0 innings pitched, dropping three earned runs off five hits, one walk, striking out one in the loss to drop to 3-2 on the season.

Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) continued her success at the plate, recording 2-for-4 with one run, one walk, two RBIs, and a long three-run homer in the third.
Savannah Newton (Concord, N.C.) would follow-suit with a 1-for-2 performance of her own, with one walk, a stolen base, and two runs scored.
Kaylee Harris (Mooresville, N.C.) continued her hitting streak with a 2-for-4 stat line in the concluding contest.

Ashbee Standridge matched Williams with a two-run homer of her own, recording 1-for-4 at the plate, with one run and one RBI. Morgan Knight logged a 1-for-2 showing with a run scored off a passed ball.

Chloee Stoner (Salisbury, N.C.) kicked off the five-hit top of the first with a single, scoring off the
Kaylyn Little (Locust, N.C.) sac-groundout.
Kaylee Harris (Mooresville, N.C.) continued the two-run first with an RBI single of her own. The bats on both sides would return cold for several innings before Tessa Spangenburg would score after her inning-opening triple in the sixth.

In a tied game heading into extras,
Brooke Goyings (Lake Villa, Ill.) and
Riley Murrish (Boerne, Texas) would each reach on base in the seventh off fielders' choices. However, Spangenburg slashed a walk-off RBI-single to end game one's decision, 3-2, in favor of Meredith.

GAME 2
Defensive miscues for Guilford would commence in game two, scoring Mariah Bell early in the second. In a back-and-forth battle,
Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) would launch a long two-run home run over the left field wall to match Meredith's scoring. Ashbee Standridge would tie the contest with a homer of her own before the bats of both squads would cool off.

With the Avenging Angels taking a two-run lead in the sixth,
Morgan Singletary (Laurel Hill, N.C.) would clear the bases off a 3 RBI double for the Quakers to take a one-run advantage heading to the bottom of the seventh.
Dillon Northen (Kernersville, N.C.) would escape out of the jam with a double-play to seal the victory for Guilford, 5-4.

Guilford returns home for a pair against Elmira College on Saturday, March 7th, at Haworth Field. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 PM, while game two is slated for 3:00 PM.
