VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – The Guilford College men's tennis team (2-11, 2-4 ODAC) faced a tough conference road test on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Virginia Wesleyan University (9-5, 2-2 ODAC). Despite several hard-fought games, the Marlins managed to defend their home courts at the Everett Tennis Center.
Virginia Wesleyan took the early advantage by securing the doubles point. At the No. 1 flight, the duo of
Emmanuel Oye (Clayton, N.C.) and
Alex Brown (Burlington, N.C.) fell 6-1 to Ayaan Choudhary and Jed Platts. The No. 2 pairing of
Turner Johnson (Oak Ridge, N.C.) and
George Hardie (Liberty, N.C.) put up a strong fight, taking four games before ultimately dropping a 6-4 decision to Alen Curovic and Hovo Madanyan. The Marlins picked up the final doubles tally at the No. 3 spot via forfeit.
Oye, Hardie, Brown, Johnson, and
Chris Kelley (Lexington, N.C.) all put up determined efforts in their respective singles matches against a deep Virginia Wesleyan lineup. The Marlins also earned a point by forfeit at the No. 6 singles position to complete the victory.
The Quakers will look to protect the McMichael Courts this Wednesday, April 1st, as they return to Greensboro to host Montreat College (N.C.). First serve is set for 2:00 PM.
