Women's Tennis Dominates Randolph-Macon, Earns Fourth Conference Win

Quakers secure doubles point and five singles matches to move to 4-1 in ODAC

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College women's tennis team (7-3, 4-1 ODAC) extended its winning streak on Saturday afternoon, putting together a commanding performance to defeat Randolph-Macon College (6-3, 3-2 ODAC) 6-1 at the McMichael Courts.

Guilford gained the early advantage by taking two out of three doubles matches to secure the opening point. At the No. 1 position, Carolina Dirk (Port Aransas, Texas) and Erika Mendez (Asheville, N.C.) were untouchable, cruising to a 6-0 shutout against Camilla Thurman and Catherine Mowry. The duo of McKenna Merritt (Dobson, N.C.) and Brooke Tsuei (Summerfield, N.C.) also delivered, turning in a 6-3 victory over Elizabeth Key and S. Tchantouridze, allowing the Quakers to enter singles play with the lead.

In singles action, Dirk continued her absolute dominance at the top of the flight. She surrendered only two games in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Thurman, extending her personal winning streak to ten consecutive matches.

Ashley Belnap (Winston-Salem, N.C.) rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2, while Chandler Sizemore (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) added another point at the No. 3 position with a 6-3, 6-4 result.

The most dramatic finishes of the day came at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, where both matches were decided by third-set tiebreakers. Tsuei displayed great poise at No. 5, recovering from a second-set stumble to win 6-0, 4-6, 10-6 over Elizabeth Key. Amy Soto Salgado (Conover, N.C.) mirrored that resilience at No. 6, outlasting Tchantouridze 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 to cap off the scoring for Guilford.

The Quakers will look to keep the momentum going tomorrow, Sunday, March 29th, when they travel to face Virginia Wesleyan University. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
