GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College men's tennis team (1-7, 1-1 ODAC) returned to their home courts on Wednesday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the WildCats of Randolph College (8-1, 4-0 ODAC) at the McMichael Courts.
The highlight of the day for Guilford came at the No. 1 doubles position. The pairing of
Andres Mercedes (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and
Emmanuel Oye (Clayton, N.C.) delivered a resilient performance, defeating Jacob Martin and Andreas Mulner 6-3. However, the WildCats secured the doubles point by taking the remaining two flights.
At the No. 1 singles spot, Mercedes showed grit by taking the opening set 6-1, though he ultimately fell in a hard-fought three-set battle to Martin. Oye,
George Hardie (Liberty, N.C.),
Alex Brown (Burlington, N.C.),
Turner Johnson (Oak Ridge, N.C.), and
Ahmaad Abdul-Haqq (Greensboro, N.C.) all put up determined efforts in their respective singles matches against a skilled Randolph lineup.
The Quakers hope to bounce back on Saturday, March 21st, when they host Hampden-Sydney College. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
