BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Guilford College women's tennis team (4-3, 1-1 ODAC) delivered a masterful performance on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 7-0 shutout victory over Bridgewater College (2-5, 0-1 ODAC) at the Mapp-Whitelow Courts.
Guilford set the tone early in doubles play, sweeping all three flights to secure the opening point. The No. 2 duo of
Chandler Sizemore (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) and
Ashley Belnap (Winston-Salem, N.C.) led the way with a clinical 6-2 win over Kira Doyne and Macy Harris, while the No. 3 pairing of
McKenna Merritt (Dobson, N.C.) and
Brooke Tsuei (Summerfield, N.C.) mirrored the 6-2 scoreline. At the top spot,
Carolina Dirk (Port Aransas, TX) and
Erika Mendez (Asheville, N.C.) battled to a 6-4 victory over Sarah Slagle and Regan Witt.
That dominance translated seamlessly into singles competition, where the Quakers won every match in straight sets. Dirk continued her exceptional individual run, extending her singles win streak with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 "double bagel" performance at the No. 1 position. Belnap followed suit at No. 2, also surrendering zero games in a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Sizemore posted a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 3 flight, while Merritt remained in control at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-2 result.
Amy Soto Salgado (Conover, N.C.) displayed grit in a contested first set at No. 5, eventually pulling away for a 7-5, 6-1 win, and
LaNiya Ward (Pittsburgh, Pa.) capped off the perfect afternoon with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 6 spot.
The Quakers will look to carry this energy home when they return to the Ragsdale courts on Wednesday, March 18th, hosting Randolph College. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
