ASHLAND, Va. - The Guilford College men's soccer team (2-8-3, 1-2-1 ODAC) traveled to Randolph-Macon College (6-2-2, 2-1-1 ODAC) on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Yellow Jackets, 3-0, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
Randolph-Macon held the advantage in shots, 13-10, and shots on goal, 8-6, while also earning seven corner kicks to Guilford's four. Quakers goalkeeper Sam Bayer (Lakeville, Minn.) played all 90 minutes, recording five saves against the Yellow Jackets' attack. Offensively, Rocco Gigliotti (Winston-Salem, N.C.) led Guilford with two shots on goal, while Isaac Garbia (Copenhagen, Denmark) added two shots and Kian Flynn (Waxhaw, N.C.) and Matthew Parker (Raleigh, N.C.) each put a shot on target.
Randolph-Macon struck early, finding the back of the net in the third minute when Barrett Wilson finished a pass from Damien Jackson to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. Guilford looked to respond, with Gigliotti testing goalkeeper Ethan Chenoweth twice in quick succession in the 15th minute, but both attempts were saved. Flynn also put a shot on target late in the half, though Chenoweth kept the Quakers off the scoreboard.
Wilson doubled the Yellow Jackets' advantage in the 44th minute, scoring his second goal of the afternoon to send Randolph-Macon into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Guilford continued to look for opportunities after the break, but Randolph-Macon's defense held firm. Jayden Walker added the final goal in the 78th minute, extending the Yellow Jackets' lead to 3-0. Despite six shots on goal and six saves from Chenoweth, the Quakers were unable to find the back of the net.
Guilford will look to bounce back next Wednesday at home against Randolph College. The conference match is set to begin at 6:00 PM.
