FOREST, Va. – Uplifting the Guilford College men's basketball team to their first-two wins in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play,
Braylen Salters (Cleveland, Ohio) was efficient and effective, claiming his ODAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on January 19
th, as announced by the conference offices on Monday afternoon.
The sophomore transfer was special in the Quakers tandem of ODAC outings this week, averaging exactly a point per minute played, leading GC in scoring in each contest on his way to 47 total tallies while shooting .448/.438/.933 (13-29/7-16/14-15). Opening with arguably the best two-way showing of his young, accomplished career, Salters dominated Eastern Mennonite University, pouring in 28 points, tied for his second-highest output of the season. Making 8-of-18 from the field, the Cleveland product caught fire from range, connecting on a career-high six threes on 11 tries plus all-six of his free throws. Defensively, he was also terrific in Guilford's runaway win, seizing a career-best eight steals, tied the ninth-most in Division-III in a game this season and even with teammate
Kody Clayton (Cary, N.C.) for the single-game high in the ODAC to this point this season. Also grabbing two rebounds, one of them offensive, Salters dished out three assists against just one turnover across 28 minutes of gametime. In his encore performance against Bridgewater, Salters was nearly as good on a minute-by-minute basis, just missing his ninth 20-point showing of the season with a team-leading 19 tallies in a blowout of the Eagles. Playing just 19 minutes due to the scoreboard, he connected on 5-of-11 overall and one of his five threes while cracking the Division-III Era top-10 for single-season free throw makes with an 8-of-9 showing at the charity stripe. The sophomore added five rebounds, including a pair on the offensive glass, in addition to two steals and two assists against a single turnover.
Retaking the lead as the ODAC's leading scorer, both overall with 319 points, and on a per game basis, at 21.3, Salters has transitioned fluidly in his first season at GC, netting double-digits in every game since the Quakers opener. He ranks fourth in Division-III in free throw makes, with 109, and seventh in tries, with 133 while his 10-steal week pushed him up the national ranks, now standing with 35 total steals and 2.33 steals per game, ranking third in the ODAC in each as well as 70
th and 62
nd nationally respectively.
The Quakers have piled up the ODAC weekly accolades over the season's opening two months, matching their 2024 total of four instances of honors from last winter, still with a month to play. Salters now sits alongside
Gabe Proctor (Apex, N.C.) as the team's two Offensive Players of the Week this year, while both Clayton and, most-recently,
Dawson Edwards (Durham, N.C.) have each gotten defensive recognition. The attribute of this Quakers team that has differentiated them from others, however, has been their balance, as their four-different honorees this year are the most separate players the program has ever had earn ODAC weekly honors in a single season.
