Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College women's tennis team (1-0, 0-0 ODAC) opened its 2025-26 campaign in commanding fashion on Sunday afternoon, defeating Salem College (0-1, 0-0 USA South) 7-0, at the Dorothy Ragsdale McMichael Courts. The Quakers excelled in both singles and doubles, making a powerful statement to start the season.
In doubles play, the Quakers quickly grabbed control of the match. At the top spot,
Carolina Dirk (Port Aransas, TX) and
Erika Mendez (Asheville, N.C.) rolled to a 6-1 win over Salem's Charlize Green and K. Ortiz Mendoza.
Ashley Belnap (Winston Salem, N.C.) and
Chandler Sizemore (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) matched the scoreline on court two, defeating Daisy Ortiz Mendoza and La'Kasia Williams, while
McKenna Merritt (Dobson, N.C.) and
Brooke Tsuei (Summerfield, N.C.) sealed the sweep with a another 6-1 victory at the third position.
The Quakers carried that momentum into singles, where they won all six matches in straight sets. Dirk battled through a second-set push from Adley Keim to secure a 6-0, 6-4 win at the top flight, while Belnap and Sizemore added convincing victories at positions two and three. Merritt dominated her match at fourth singles with a 6-1, 6-0 decision, and
Amy Soto Salgado (Conover, N.C.) claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win at the fifth spot.
LaNiya Ward (Pittsburgh, PA) capped off the performance with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at six singles.
The 7-0 victory gives Guilford a strong start to the fall season and showcases the team's depth and consistency across the lineup.
The Quakers return to action on Tuesday, September 16, when they travel to face Mars Hill University.
