FOREST, Va. – Absolutely carving up the Methodist University defense all night long on Saturday evening, Shane Shapiro (Jacksonville, N.C.) etched his name into Guilford College football lore and into Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Offensive Player of the Week honors for week two of football, ending on September 13^th, as announced by the conference offices on Sunday afternoon.

The junior wideout hauled in 14 catches on the night for GC, going for 210 yards and two scores along the way. His 14 receptions in a single game are tied for seventh-most in program history, and are the most the Quakers have seen since Tyriek Russell had 15 in a game against Averett University on September 17, 2016. Posting the second-highest receptions total in Division-III football on the young season, his figure is the most the conference has seen since it was reached twice in 2019.

His yardage total of 210 slots sixth in the program record books and is the most any Quaker football player has accrued since Adam Smith '16 set the GC's high-watermark of 253 against Shenandoah University on October 10, 2015. The third-most yards in a game that the nation has seen in Division-III so far, his mark is also the most the league has seen since 2019.

Shapiro becomes the first Guilford football player to be recognized with a conference weekly honor on the young season with the last being Jaylan Richardson '24, MBA '25 who got ODAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition for week one last season. He is the first GC player to take home Offensive Player of the Week honors since Bailey Baker '23 in week one back in 2022.
