GREENSBORO, N.C. – At the conclusion of a brilliant final season of collegiate football with the Guilford College football team,
Malik Hargrove (Warren County, N.C.) is set to see his career continue internationally after signing a professional contract with Gallos Negros of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional in Mexico as announced last month.
"Even though Malik was only part of the program for one year he brought a lot of things to the table for our program both on and off the field," Head Coach
Brad Davis said. "Malik brought energy and leadership to the program. Our only regret is we were only fortunate enough to have him for one year."
"This would not be possible without the work (Strength and Conditioning) Coach
Matt Furlaneto De Oliveira and I have put in, putting me in a position to go out and perform my best when I step on the field," Hargrove noted. "I also want to thank the coaching staff overall who opened the doors for me to make big plays on the field through communicating what suits me the best for my playing style, and a big shoutout to my teammates and friends at Guilford for an amazing support system that kept me going and motivated me to be at my best, resulting in this opportunity to sign a contract and play professionally."
Transferring in to play his final season of collegiate eligibility, Hargrove was an instant-impact player for the Quakers as a versatile defender on his way to an All-ODAC Third Team nod. Wreaking havoc and having a nose for always being around the play, Hargrove managed to finish third on the team in total tackles with 52.0, and second in solo tackles with 31, marks that ranked tied for 24th and 17th in the ODAC respectively, despite missing a couple games with injury. Easily GC's most well-rounded defender, he added four pass break-ups, tied for third-most on the team, four QB hurries, also third-most on the roster, and he forced a fumble. The role in which Hargrove thrived most was disrupting plays in the backfield, however, as he led the Quakers with 9.0 tackles for a loss, a total that ranks tied for fourth in the ODAC despite just the eight games played. Included in that total are 2.0 sacks, the fourth-most on the team and he averaged 1.1 TFLs per contest, ranking third in the league and 131
st in Division-III Football.
After the season, Hargrove then went on to represent GC at the 2025 Unity Beach Bowl Senior All-Star game, performing well and resulting in the start of the process that led to the signing of the contract.
