Another Awesome Farrar Performance Drives Men’s Basketball Past Eastern Mennonite

Dominant second stanza results in runaway win in road finale

HARRISONBURG, Va. – With his third 30-point outburst in his last six games, Nick Farrar (Apex, N.C.) dominated again for the Guilford College men's basketball team (18-6, 11-4 ODAC) as they concluded their slate of regular season road games with an 83-64 win over Eastern Mennonite University (5-18, 2-12 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Saturday evening at Yoder Arena.

The Quakers continued to scuffle finding their touch from range finishing just 6-for-20, but they more than made up for it inside the arch with their best field goal percentage since November converting at a .544 rate against the Royals' .383 overall mark and .259 rate from deep. GC doubled-up EMU in points in the paint, 44-22, and out-rebounded their hosts 39-31 in the victorious effort.

This evening's edition of Farrar the Fantastic was his second-consecutive 34-point output with a season-best field goal percentage of .833, making a season-high trio of threes and matching his career-best with 15 field goal makes. He added game-highs of eight rebounds and three blocks and was tied for the team-lead with four assists while throwing in a steal for good measure. Caleb Farrish (McLeansville, N.C.) scored a dozen to go with seven caroms, including three offensive. Luke Proctor (Apex, N.C.) finished with ten and was even with Farrar with three helpers.

Isaiah Carr led the Royals with 15 points on 5-of-9 from the field, but only Aaron Brooks joined him in double-figures. EMU's leading scorer coming in had ten points on 4-of-11 and a game-high four assists. Jalen Jones led the home team with five rebounds off the bench.

After never leading in the first clash with Guilford just over a month ago, Eastern Mennonite came out and scored on four of their first seven possessions as the they traded blows pretty much exclusively with Farrar in the first few minutes as the Quaker big scored all of the team's first 14 points. With the tallies 10-9, Farrar notched the final five points of that trend before a Chase Ellis (Douglasville, Ga.) steal found the hands of Gabe Proctor (Apex, N.C.) who found Farrish and the senior finished a tough fastbreak hoop and got the foul, converting the three-point play and capping an 8-0 run for their biggest lead of the half at 17-10. Things would just never really open up for Guilford in the first as a 9-2 EMU run got things even and from there GC would retake the lead but the Royals basically kept in that one-to-two possession range through the half and a Brooks layup with seven seconds made the score 42-37 at the break.

The Quakers would change that story pretty early in the second-half. The team's combined to score on ten of their first 12 possessions, evenly dividing the first 16 points of the half, and while GC would maintain that tempo, EMU could not. Six-straight from Farrar, six-straight from Luke Proctor including a four-point play, two by Caleb Furr (Warrenton, Va.), one from Ellis, two from Farrish, and another duo from Furr made it a landslide in a hurry. All-told, their 19-unanswered points was their best scoring run of the season, besting their 14-in-a-row from the matchup with EMU in Greensboro. The game now well-in-hand, Guilford maintained their 20-point edge, eventually unloading their bench until a Jameel Davis two brought the final score to 83-64.

Playing every Wednesday and Saturday since the new year, GC finally gets a little time off as they will get the full week to recuperate before their senior night clash with Averett University on Saturday, February 22nd beginning at 4:30 PM at Jack Jensen Court.
