Men’s Soccer Drops Season Finale to Roanoke on the Road

Inaccuracies in offensive-possession lead to the Quakers downfall against the Maroons.

SALEM, Va. - The Guilford men's soccer team (4-12-2, 1-7-1 ODAC) traveled on the road for one last Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) battle of the season to take on Roanoke College (8-10-0, 2-7-0 ODAC). The Quakers would bring in many opportunities to get on the board throughout the match, however the Guilford defensive front were ultimately subdued by the Maroons, resulting in a 4-0 decision in favor of Roanoke on Wednesday evening, at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.
 
Ildis Vital-Peraza (Vienna, Va.) would draw the start all 90 minutes in goal for Guilford. Vital-Peraza snagged five saves off of four goals against, from a pummeling 18 shot attempts. He would ultimately be on the losing end of the result, dropping his record to 3-10-1 on the season. Roanoke's keeper, Aidan McHugh would see 45 minutes of action while getting the nod at net tonight. McHugh had other contributors on the night with one team save, off of three shot attempts. Denzel Marufu and John Carter Austin would also see time in goal for the Maroons, with 25 and 21 minutes of play respectively. Marufu saw three shot attempts, while Carter Austin scooped one save, off five shot attempts. McHugh would be on the winning end of the clash, improving his record to 6-9-0 on the year.
 
Guilford's offensive gameplay was not evident throughout the matchup with minimal shot attempts throughout regulation. Isaac Garbia (Copenhagen, Denmark) would lead the squad with four shot attempts, one being on goal. Jaykob Garbia (Copenhagen Denmark) was consistent from his one shot attempts, which was goal. Hector Rodriguez (Sanford, N.C.) and Cameron Robinson (Garner, N.C.) gave the Quakers chances to get on the board throughout the evening, both launching two shot attempts each.
 
Carlos Lomena would lead the charge for Roanoke, dominating off of his two goals scored from three shot attempts, with all three on goal. Pacific Ibanzi would continue the success with a goal of his own from two shot attempts, both on goal. Harrison Kraus and Kyle Butcher gave the Maroons a plethora of scoring chances. Butcher sent two shot attempts and Kraus sent three shot attempts, each having one shot on goal.

The contest would kick off with multiple shot attempts and fouls being drawn by each team in the opening minutes.
 
Ibanzi would start off the scoring for the Maroons, cruising a shot into the net off of a cross assisted by Austin Briggs in the 33rd minute. Lomena would keep at it for Roanoke with a goal of his own in the 40th minute from the Logan Lavinder assist to wrap up the opening period
 
Defensive miscues would take over for the Quakers in the second-half off of the yellow card foul drawn from Garbia. This led to the eventual own goal going in favor of Roanoke in the 60th minute.
 
Lomena would put this game on ice with his second goal of the clash, assisted by Briggs in the 77th minute of play. Although ball-possession and scoring chances would improve throughout the battle for the Quakers, ultimately Guilford's defensive front would be shut down, leading to the 4-0 decision in favor of Roanoke.
 
This concludes the Quakers 2025-26 season.
