GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College football team (2-5, 1-4 ODAC) was blanked by No. 20/25 Randolph-Macon College (6-1, 5-0 ODAC), 47-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play at Appenzeller Field in the Armfield Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Quaker offense never got going in this one, getting held below the century mark on the whole with just 97 yards of total offense.
Luke Hyatt (Wadesboro, N.C.) had a strong completion percentage, connecting on 18-of-29, but at barely over 5.0 yards a clip, finishing with 95 yards and a pick-six.
Cameron Campbell (Flowery Branch, Ga.) paced all players with five catches albeit for only 20 yards.
Alex Wilson (Four Oaks, N.C.) had a cluster of first-quarter catches to lead GC in receiving yards with 36 on three grabs and
Ben Parry (Chapel Hill, N.C.) hauled in four catches for 27 yards in the game.
Malik Woodard (Wilson, N.C.) led GC in rushing yards with a dozen on six carries.
The Yellow Jackets rotated through four different signal-callers throughout with Jake Mulhern getting a majority of the action, connecting on 10-of-17 with a touchdown and an interception. Both of Dante Casciola's completed passes resulted in scores for the guests. Jason Moore led them in receiving taking three catches for 75 yards and a touchdown but it was a balanced effort for R-MC with nine different players making a reception. The same was true on the ground for the guests as nine players had a tote. Cameron Chatmon led the way with 58 yards on ten carries.
Nick Iannone (Wellington, Fla.) led all players in tackles with 10 in the game while
Travis Burton (Pikeville, N.C.) added nine including 2.5 TFLs.
Zy'Quan Williams (Stantonsburg, N.C.) had a career-best six tackles and
Tylar Johnson (Hickory, N.C.) came away with GC's lone takeaway.
For Randolph-Macon, Caleb Hughes led the way with six tackles followed by Neftali Reyes' five, including a sack. Brandon Watson brought in an interception and took it back 75 yards for a score.
Nothing went in the Quakers' favor statistically, with their two net rushing yards on 25 attempts standing out. The turnover battle finished even, but did little to make up for the 468-97 differential in total yards. The visiting team also maintained a 35:14-24:46 edge in time of possession.
Receiving the ball first, Randolph-Macon wasted little time as Moore took the first play from scrimmage 41 yards on a jet sweep before Mitchell Johnson got the ball and ran it in from 20 yards away and they had the lead just 33 seconds in. After traded three-and-outs, Guilford got some headway on their second drive, but Watson undercut a Hyatt pass and took it back 75 yards for a score. R-MC marked down and scored again on their next possession, finishing with a Casciola pass to Cullen Martin as they upped their lead to 20-0 after one.
In the second, Randolph-Macon scored again, this time with Casciola hitting Nathaniel Quance from 11 yards out before they did it again two drives later, third time with Mulhern hitting Moore and the wideout going the distance for a 62-yarder, making the tallies 34-0 at the half.
Jaxon Jones punched in a one-yard TD in the third before R-MC kicked a couple of fourth-quarter field goals to ice the score at 47-0.
Guilford heads into their bye week next before heading to Salem on Saturday, November 1 for a game under the lights at Roanoke. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.
