WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Jaden Jones (Rocky Mount, N.C.) took third in the 400m for the Guilford College track & field team as they began their indoor season at the Mondo College Invitational, hosted by JDL Fast Track, on Saturday.
A total of 32 collegiate teams sent athletes to the meet, with the universities in attendance ranging across all three divisions of NCAA athletics, plus some NAIA and NCCAA institutions. No team scores were kept at the competition. The Quakers as a team had 14 total athletes compete on the day, 13 men and one woman.
Jones topped the 43-athlete field in the 400m with a standout performance in his collegiate racing debut, posting a mark of 53.09. GC's second-best placing also came in the 400-meter run, with
Yassine Allam (Holly Springs, N.C.) taking 12
th with a mark of 54.85.
Ahmaad Abdul-Haqq (Greensboro, N.C.) and
Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) also competed in the event. In addition to their times individually, Jones, Allam, and Abdul-Haqq combined efforts with in
Trenten Torain (Durham, N.C.) to take 12
th place in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:52.36
Guilford also sent four athletes to the line in the 60m with
Cedric Blowe (Indian Trail, N.C.) leading the pack with a 7.33 mark that was good for 13
th out of 50.
Jerome Moore (Mount Olive, N.C.) placed 31
st followed by
Jadyn Swinson (LaGrange, N.C.) and
Marcus Tate (Atlanta, Ga.).
The lone lady to compete for the Quakers on this day,
Bess Parnell (Cairo, Egypt) had her top finish in the 400m taking 18
th with a 1:11.32 time. She also jumped in the long jump taking 35
th with a leap of 4.01 meters. Tate secured a 30
th place finish with a 5.39m jump in the men's long jump.
In other highlights, GC featured two top-30 finishers in Torian and
Kendal Lowe (Winston-Salem, N.C.) in the 600m,
JC Yañez (Thomasville, N.C.) claimed 15
th in the 800m, and
Malik Hargrove (Warren County, N.C.) secured 28
th in the 60m. Meanwhile, in the field,
Akeem Kaiuway (Greensboro, N.C.) took 37
th in the men's shot put.
Guilford heads back to the JDL Fast Track facility next Sunday to compete in their Flat is Fast Invitational. Events begin at 9:30 AM.
