Men’s Tennis Split Weekend Trip, Defeated by Shenandoah

Mercedes extends fine form with win in singles

WINCHESTER, Va. -- The men's tennis team looked to cap their weekend off with a conference sweep, battling Shenandoah at the Lowry Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon. Competitive matches were fought across singles and doubles, but the Quakers fell to the Hornets, 8-1.

GC sees their winning run of two straight matches come to a close, as their record is now 7-6; 4-2 versus conference foes. SU moves to 11-5, and 5-1 against the same slate of opponents.

Andres Mercedes (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) pushed his win streak against fellow no. 1 singles opponent Jovan Cirkovic to three, still undefeated against the Hornets in singles throughout his young career. The sophomore defeated Cirkovic in two sets, his first time doing so after battling him to three in the previous two matchups, 6-2, 7-5.

Guilford now has the next week to prepare for their next slate of conference opponents, the first welcoming Randolph-Macon to the McMichael courts next Saturday, March 13. Start time for doubles is set for 1:00 p.m.
