BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Along with women's tennis, the men's tennis squad also went away for an ODAC matchup versus Bridgewater, looking to keep their strong conference record intact. They did just so, defeating the Eagles 7-2, behind very strong doubles play.
The win promotes Guilford to a 7-5 record, but a 4-1 conference record. Bridgewater drops their fifth straight, with a record now of 3-8, 0-5 against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponents.
Brandon Hermes (West Hartford, Conn.) continued his strong freshman campaign, posting his seventh singles win in nine matches this spring. He won his match at the no. 2 singles slot by a 6-4, 6-0 scoreline.
Hermes and partner Andres Mercedes (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), swept their matches today, with the latter victorious dominantly, 6-2, 6-2 at no. 1 singles. The pair took down Eagles Mark Gordon and Gabe Elder 8-5 in doubles, as well.
The men's tennis team looks to go for a weekend conference sweep, next heading over to Winchester, Virginia to battle Shenandoah. Start time is set for 12:00 p.m.
