Falcons Prevail Over Men’s Tennis in Windy Conditions

Hermes wins third-straight singles match in loss

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Peiffer University was next on the docket for the men's tennis squad for a non-conference bout. Like their other losses in previous matches, the Quakers could not take advantage in doubles, and suffered a 5-4 defeat.

Guilford now sits at a 5-5 record heading back into their conference slate, while Pfeiffer advances to 8-3.

Despite GC's third straight loss, there was a silver lining. Brandon Hermes (West Hartford, Conn.) won his third straight singles match at the no. 2 slots, and dating back to Washington and Lee (Match 23), the sophomore hasn't lost since. Rylan Tuten (Asheville, N.C.) was resilient in his singles match, going the distance for the second time in three tries. He prevailed once more, winning in a third-set super tiebreak.

The Quakers have a quick turnaround to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play, welcoming the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney tomorrow afternoon at the McMichael Courts. Start time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
