GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maggie Hartnett (Hebron, Maine) was simply unstoppable on Saturday afternoon, setting the program record for points in a single game with 14, leading the Guilford College women's lacrosse team to a 19-2 onslaught over Warren Wilson College at Appenzeller Field.
With the win, the Quakers advance to 3-3 on the season, their best start since opening 4-2 in 2019. The Owls, on the other hand, fall to 2-4.
Zenna Carson (Blacksburg, Va.) went the first 45 allowing just two goals against six saves to improve to 3-3.
Gabby Matthews (Kernersville, N.C.) tended a scoreless fourth frame making one save for GC. Hayden Drescher went the distance making just eight saves against 19 goals allowed to fall to 2-4 for WWC.
Hartnett broke her own program-record points tally, reaching that mark with exceptional balance, equally splitting her points across goals scored herself, and goals assisted on. She scored her seven goals, her highest total since 2022, on just nine shots while also recording a career-high in helpers. The senior also tallied five ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls.
Kylie Horn (Fairfax, Va.) matched a career-best with six goals of her own.
Emma Garland (Hampstead, N.C.) had four assists, two draw controls, four caused turnovers, and six groundballs for the Quakers.
Reagan Carroll (Greensboro, N.C.) and
Riley Gravley (Greensboro, N.C.) each scored once and assisted twice in the game with the latter adding four draw controls and six ground balls.
Sydney Weber scored both goals for Warren Wilson adding a game-high 12 draw controls, with three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
As a team, GC outshot the opposition 38-15, causing 28 turnovers and pilling up 19 goals, their highest total since scoring 26 against Hollins on March 30, 2022.
Guilford wasted little time getting on the board with Hartnett finding the back of the net just under three minutes in. She then turned to distributing, assisting on a Horn goal. WWC got one back as Weber took the draw control and going straight down the field to score, splitting the deficit in half. The third goal in less than 60 seconds was back with the Quakers with Hartnett setting up
Maggie Bryson (Kernersville, N.C.). GC then racked up the final three goals of the frame with Hartnett scoring off a Garland assist, then she set up Carroll and Horn to make the score 6-1 after the first quarter.
The Owls got one back with a Weber tally on a free position attempt less than 30 seconds in, but it was all Guilford from there. Harnett scored her third off a Gravley assist, then the eighth goal of the contest ended up as the first that Hartnett as
Kylie Wood (Greensboro, N.C.) scored a second-chance goal. Gravley set up Hartnett again bringing the halftime tallies to 9-2.
Guilford got into running clock swiftly in the third with Hartnett scoring two unassisted goals on either side of goals by Horn and Bryson tallies, with Hartnett assisting on the former and Carroll on the latter with the score advancing to 15-2 as they turned for home.
In the fourth, Hartnett linked up with Horn for the record-tying and setting points, both of which were helpers. Gravley and
Grace Holmes (Chestertown, Md.) polishing off the stellar scoring day bringing the score to 19-2.
Guilford returns to their home turf next Saturday when they open Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play against Virginia Wesleyan with first faceoff at 2:00 PM.
