Johnson Hired as New Head of Athletic Communications

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Guilford College Athletic Department announces the addition of the new Director of Athletic Communications, Bryce Johnson.

"I'm really excited to announce Bryce Johnson as our Director of Athletic Communications'', says Director of Athletics, Bill Foti. "He brings a wealth of experience in all areas of athletics communications, particularly in producing high quality video content. Fans of Quakers Athletics will continue to enjoy the highest levels of live web streaming as well as updates through guilfordquakers.com, all of our social media platforms, and on Quakers Mobile."

"I am thrilled to come to Greensboro, join the Guilford College Athletics family, and serve the Quaker student-athletes in the role of Director of Athletic Communications," Johnson added. "I want to thank Athletic Director Bill Foti, in addition to the rest of the search committee for this opportunity and entrusting me to lead the efforts to raise the standard and promote the brand of Guilford College and Quaker Athletics. It is an exciting time to be a Quaker, and I cannot wait to embark on this adventure within the Guilford College community."

Previously, Johnson spent the past year and a half at Black Hills State University (BHSU), a Division-II school in Spearfish, South Dakota, his title there being the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and Video Content Services. In this role, he coordinated all productions on the videoboards at their basketball and football arenas, including videos, graphics, and other content for game days.

During his time in Spearfish, Johnson transformed the production of athletic content at BHSU, helping to nurture a gameday culture that drew record-setting fans for home events. Featuring a specialty in videography, Johnson produced and released 57 original videos in the first academic year that now all reside on the BHSU Athletics YouTube page. Additionally, he has received recognition for two of these videos from the College Sport Communicators Creative and Digital Design Contest as top-ten videos in the nation in the college division. Other projects Johnson has undertaken for BHSU include the creation of a podcast, aiding in a 10.6% increase of following on the university's athletic account on X, and leading the efforts to upgrade streaming for all 12 NCAA athletic programs.

Prior to BHSU, Johnson served as an Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant at Roger Williams University (RWU), later becoming Interim Director of Athletics Communications. Whilst at RWU, Johnson earned his Masters of Public Administration. In this role, Johnson honed his time into creating video content, as well as developing the podcast, "Hawk Talk". He also wrote multiple press releases, contributed to the athletic website, and created social media content.

Johnson earned his bachelor's degree in Sports Media at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire in 2020. He worked within the Athletic Communications department while at FPU, supervising multimedia and creating video content for all social media pages. Johnson also assisted with gameday functions, and game recaps. He sharpened his broadcasting skills, serving as a play-by-play announcer for Ravens Sports Network all four years in Rindge.

During his time at Franklin Pierce, Johnson earned a broadcasting accolade, specifically a New England Emmy Honorable Mention for basketball. In the summer period of 2019, he completed an internship, serving as Production Coordinator for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Later on in 2021, he returned to the team, advising the organization as the Executive Producer.

Johnson is a high school graduate from Lyman Memorial High School in Lebanon, Connecticut, playing in three sports.
