Women’s Tennis Kicks Off Spring Slate in Fashion, Defeating the Panthers

First 9-0 sweep over Ferrum in almost 17 years

Box Score FERRUM, Va. -- The women's tennis team kicked off their spring season with a conference match right off the bat, away at Ferrum. The Quakers won in dominant fashion, 9-0, their fifth straight over the Panthers.

Guilford progressed to 1-0 in the young spring season, while Ferrum remains winless at 0-4.

GC had three freshmen make their 2024 debuts, and all were victorious. Kancie Tate (Mount Airy, N.C.) did not drop a game at no. 3 singles, while partnering with sophomore Ashley Belnap (Winston Salem, N.C.) for the 8-2 triumph at no. 1 doubles. Molly Wilson (Salisbury, N.C.) matched Tate's win margin at no. 4 singles, while winning 8-1 with Jolie Nhouyvanisvong (Greensboro, N.C.) at the no. 2 doubles slot. The third first-year, Bethany Lupo (Tabor City, N.C.) made her mark at No. 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Lupo partnered with Nya Reed (Greensboro, N.C.), winning at No. 3 doubles.

The women's tennis team returns to action next Friday, where they continue conference play at Salem, Virginia. Start time for their contest against Roanoke on Friday, March 1 is set for 2:00 p.m.
