Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Torres' Lone Goal Hands Quakers Crosstown Win

The men's soccer team of Guilford College traveled across town to face the Pride of Greensboro College on Tuesday night, at Pride Field. The Quakers won 1-0, with a goal from junior forward Osman Torres

The Quakers' persistence in the offensive zone began with haste, as Torres sent a shot into the lower right corner in the 13th minute, giving Guilford the 1-0 lead. Overall, the first half was commanded offensively by the visiting side, as Guilford posted more overall shots (4-3) in which three were directly on target, compared to Greensboro's zero.

The second half showcased great defense from both goalkeepers, with seven of the overall saves from the game coming from the second 45 minutes. The Pride's Cristian Del Cid Portillo helped to prevent the Quaker's offensive pressure, defending four on-target shots. From the visiting side, Logan Walker made all four of his saves in the second half to preserve Guilford's solo goal lead.

Guilford led the game in shots on goal, with six compared to Greensboro's four. The contest was one for warnings with six yellow cards being issued.

The Quakers (1-1) take another away trip to Cary, N.C. on Friday, September 8 to face the Pacers of William Peace University. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park.
