The Guilford College women's volleyball team faced Virginia Wesleyan University to kick off Homecoming Weekend. The Quakers fell to the Marlins, 3-0.
In the opening set, it was Guilford that worked its way to an early 7-4 lead. From there, Virginia Wesleyan took over with several large runs to win the set, 25-12.
The Marlins grasped the early advantage in the second with a 9-2 run to go in front by five (12-7). The Quakers fought their way back into the set and pulled within one and kept in striking distance. Unfortunately, the visitors' attack was took strong as they won six of the final seven points for the 25-19 win.
Similar to set two, VWU captured the early advantage until GC found its way back into the set. Just like the second, the Marlins slowly pulled away and won the set, 25-14 and ultimately the match.
Guilford has a quick turnaround as it will face Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, September 30. Start time is set for 11:00 a.m.
