Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Quakers Conquer Intense Five Set Match

The Guilford college women's volleyball team faced Greensboro College in a high-energy game, leaving the crowd at the edge of their seats. One word to describe the match was "intense" as the teams went back and forth for five sets, with Guilford eventually claiming a 3-2 victory.

The first set began with an exchange of points until tied at seven. The Quakers went on a five-point streak, taking the lead. Midway through the set, Greensboro reclaimed the lead, with Guilford close behind. With the score at 24-23, the Quakers were unable to hang on as the Pride snagged the set winning point.

With some newfound motivation, the Quakers showed their dominance in set two. Although still a tight scoring set, Guilford stayed ahead for its entirety, winning 25-20.

Coming off the high from the second set, the Quakers looked to get control of the match. Evenly matched throughout, Guilford sat two points behind Greensboro at 20-18. Unfortunately, the Pride went on a five-point run, claiming a 25-18 victory.

Needing to win the next two sets, the fourth was exciting to say the least. Opened with two kills by Natalie Moore, the tone was set for the rest of the set. Four and six-point runs helped the home team secure the win, 25-21.

Going into the last and final set, both teams had their adrenaline on high. Needing just 15 points to win, the crowd was trying to rally each turn. Greensboro took the initial lead, at one moment, a whole four points ahead of Guilford 10-6. However, the Quakers went on a crucial seven-point run, with the help of Moore and Madison Duvall, claiming the lead at 13-10. The teams battled it out over the last few points, with the Quakers capturing a well deserved victory, 15-12.

Moore and Kaci Johnson finished with double-digit kills with 13 and 10, respectively. Vanessa Johnson made her presence felt at the night with five blocks. Maddi Page contributed 33 assists while Madison Bozarth totaled 23 digs.

Looking to continue their six-match winning streak, the Guilford Quakers will travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia to take on Eastern Mennonite University on Friday, September 22. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
