GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The 23rd edition of the Gate City Soup Bowl is upon us as Guilford College hosts crosstown rival Greensboro College on Saturday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m.
This year's version will take place at the Armfield Athletic Center on Appenzeller Field. Fans are encouraged to wear crimson as it is the football team's BLEED CRIMSON game.
Additionally, fans who bring
three canned goods will receive free admission into the game. If you have already purchased season tickets, you are highly encouraged to bring canned goods to donate at the the gate entrances. Tickets will be available for purchase at the gate for $8 for general admission, cash only. College students are $5 while children under the age of 12 are free. All Guilford College Faculty, Staff and Students are free with their Quaker Card.
Since 1997, students of the dual G.C.'s have competed in a canned food drive to benefit Second Harvest and Greensboro Urban Ministries with helping those in need. Additionally, teams within each school's athletic departments compete among themselves to see which squad has the highest participation rate.
The school with the most donations receives bragging rights and the "Cup Award" and the winning team gets to keep the actual "Soup Bowl Trophy" for a year.
