After rain moved the doubleheader back a day, the Guilford College baseball team hit the road to challenge Hampden-Sydney College. The Quakers dropped both games, 7-2 and 9-3.
Game 1: Hampden-Sydney 7, Guilford 2
Guilford went down scoreless in the first but Hampden-Sydney took the early lead with two runs. The hosts followed with another run in the bottom of the second.
Allden Horne put the Quakers on the board with a solo homer in the top of the fifth. The Tigers three runs in the seventh to open a six-run (7-1) edge.
Grayson Tudor drove in the final run of the game in the ninth with a single down the left field line. Hampden-Sydney went on to win by the five-run margin.
Game 2: Hampden-Sydney 9, Guilford 3
Just like game one, the home team notched two runs in the first for the early lead. This time, Guilford answered in the top of the third.
Isaiah Hairston got the scoring going with a RBI double to right center.
Rylan Smith followed with a single that brought home Hairston.Â
The tie was short lived as the Tigers scored two in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 4-2.
In the fifth, Hampden-Sydney added three runs on two hits. After another Tiger run in the sixth, Hairston homered in the eighth to pull GC within five, 8-3.
Hampden-Sydney added the final touch in the eighth for the 9-3 win.
Guilford returns to McBane Field on Tuesday, April 4 to face Southern Virginia. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
