Game Recap: Softball |

Guilford Sweeps Twinbill

The Guilford College softball team faced the Meredith College Angles in a home doubleheader. The Quakers defeated the Angles in both games, 10-4 and 3-2.

Game 1: Guilford 10, Meredith 4

After Meredith went down in order, Guilford got on the board early. Kassidy Lancos and Abbie Hill were able to make it home after Ally Morales hit a single through the left side.

The Quakers added two more runs in the bottom of the second as Grace Calus and Emma Patterson scored. Meredith was able to put its first run on the board in the top of the third but GC added three more runs with a homeruns from Alli Clemens and Faith Fennell.

In the bottom of the fourth, Guilford scored three more runs including an RBI single by Clemens that scored two. Despite adding three runs in the top of the fifth, the difference was too large for the visitors as the Quakers won 10-4.

Dillon Northen picked up the win, pitching four innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on seven hits.

Game 2: Guilford 3, Meredith 2 (9 Inn.)

Meredith started game two by scoring the first two runs in the top of the first. Guilford was able to add a run to the board as Morgan Kinney hit a single up the center field that sent Lancos home.

After a scoreless inning in the second from both squads, the Quakers added another run by Lancos on three hits.

The game remained tied at two until the bottom of the ninth. After Ally Coker started the inning on second thanks to the international tiebreaker, a fielding error allowed her to score and walk it off for Guilford.

Shiloh Gray pitched six innings, only allowing two runs. Kinney pitched the other three innings allowing two hits.

Guilford will host a doubleheader matchup against Southern Virginia University on Saturday, March 4. Game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
