The Guilford College men's basketball team faced the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets in the regular season finale. The matchup between the 14th-ranked Quakers and the second-ranked Yellow Jackets lived up the hype as the visitors won by three points, 61-58.
The game started as a defensive battle with the Quakers not being able to catch any momentum. Randolph-Macon found its footing and went on an eight-point run to open a 10-point lead (15-5).
From here the Quakers were able to put some pressure on the Yellow Jackets and started trading buckets. Leading into the last few minutes of the half, Randolph-Macon slowly started to pull away and led 40-23 at the break.
Coming out of the half the Yellow Jackets tried to continue to pull away but the Quakers had an answer. Guilford went on a 14-point run to cut the deficit to just two (46-44).
From there, the game was on. The two squads showed why they are deserving of a top-25 ranking with clutch baskets and key defensive stops. With 3:09 on the clock, Tyler Dearman hit a three to cut the difference to one (59-58). Unfortunately, that was the closest the Quakers got as Randolph-Macon hit two late free throws to seal the victory.
Guilford was led by Dearman with 20 points and five rebounds while Jorden Davis added 13 points. Most every statistical category was evenly matched between the two teams.
