The Guilford College women's lacrosse team opened the 2023 season against Methodist University. The Quakers fell to the Monarchs, 17-5.

Methodist started the game by scoring the first six goals. Midway through the second, Sydne Sawyer got Guilford on the board.

The Monarchs scored with under a minute left in the half. The visitors led 7-1 at the break.

Methodist netted the first two goals of the third before Sawyer scored her second of the game off a pass from Maggie Hartnett. Following another Monarch goal, Hartnett and Sawyer scored back-to-back goals.

The Monarchs scored seven-straight to open a 17-4 edge. Hartnett scored final goal of the contest as the Quakers fell by eight.

Sawyer finished with three goals and four draw controls. Zenna Carson started in net and made 23 saves.

Guilford will host Berry College on Sunday, February 19 with first draw at 12:00 p.m.
