Women's Basketball Drops Road Game to Yellow Jackets

The Guilford College women's basketball hit the road to face the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets. An early deficit downed the Quakers, 75-60.

Guilford (7-2, 3-2) opened the game with three points from Anna Giannopoulou. At this point, Randolph-Macon scored 11-straight points over the next two-plus minutes. The Quakers and Yellow Jackets traded the next couple baskets as the home side led 15-7 going to the second period.

In the second, GC opened it with five-straight points capped off by a three from Ashtyn Zeigler to make it a 15-12 game. Following a basket from both sides, RMC went on an 11-2 run to lead 28-16 with 2:56 on the clock. Guilford and Markayla Massenburg were able to make it an 11-point game (31-20) at the half. 

To start the third, Giannopoulou made two free throws but Randolph-Macon scored eight-unanswered to hold a 39-22 advantage. The Quakers tried to narrow the margin but the hosts were able to maintain a double-digit lead through the period and led 52-36 going to the final 10 minutes of regulation.

The fourth period was the highest scoring 10 minutes for the Quakers as it finished with 24 points. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets also scored 23 points in a back-and-forth period as they went on to win by 15-points.

Giannopoulou led GC with 17 points while adding four rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Three-point shots were the difference as the Quakers went 3-11 while Randolph-Macon was 8-20.

Guilford will have some time off for the holiday break before heading to Georgia to face Agnes Scott on Friday, December 29. Start time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
