Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Quakers Struggle on the Road

The Guilford College men's soccer team traveled to Winchester, Va. to battle Shenandoah University in an ODAC contest. The Quakers dropped their fourth straight contest, 5-1.

It took just nine minutes for the game's opening goal, the Hornets went up a goal from Ikem Chinedu. Goalkeeper Roman Robinson made two saves to keep the visiting team's deficit at one, but could not stop Nathan Yared's strike in the 19th minute, doubling the Hornet's advantage.

Ten minutes later, Shenandoah widened their lead to three (29:00). Not long after, Guilford cut the lead to two, a goal by Jesse Guzman at the 33:05 mark. Just before the halftime whistle, a costly own goal by the visiting team increased the Hornet's lead back to three (44:37).

Roughly eight minutes into the second half, Shenandoah scored their fifth goal, another from Yared. The score held for the rest of the game, as Guilford lost 5-1.

The Hornets led in shots (17-4) and shots on goal (10-1). Shenandoah's backline prevented any shots at their keeper, while Robinson made six saves.

The Quakers (2-9-1, 0-4-1) continue their away set in Virginia, heading to Washington and Lee on Wednesday, October 11. Kickoff from Lexington is set for 7:00 p.m. at Alston Parker Watt Field.
