Quakers Earn Decisive Victory on the Road

In their penultimate regular season game, the Guilford College Quakers made the trip to Lynchburg, Virginia to battle the WildCats of Randolph College. In large part to the efforts of forward Baylee Greenwood, Guilford was victorious, 1-0.

By the sixth minute, the visiting side had the chance to take an early lead, with shots from Mya Rivera and Olivia Santos, but both were stopped by the right post and crossbar, respectively. One minute later, the offense kept applying pressure, but Greenwood's first shot missed left.

Constant pressure from the Quaker offense paid dividends, as Greenwood dribbled by a pair of defenders, eventually striking a shot just outside the penalty box into the lower left corner for the 1-0 lead in the 37th minute. This goal brought Greenwood's tally to 13 on the season.

Goalkeeper Ady Franken faced three shots, and made one save to ensure the away side's lead at the halftime whistle.

The WildCat offense found a spark in the second half, tallying more shots on target, but all were cleared away by the Quaker shot stopper. Guilford's backline proved strong, holding tough and ensuring the 1-0 victory for the visitors.

Franken finished with five saves on the night. The Quakers led in total shots (11-9) and corners (5-2).

Guilford returns back to Armfield Athletic Center for its last regular season contest on Senior Day, Saturday, October 28th to face Eastern Mennonite University. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
