The Guilford College football team hit the road to face the Ferrum College Panthers. The Quakers struggled to move the ball and fell on the road, 28-0.
Guilford received the opening kick strung together a solid drive to the Ferrum 20. On third-and-six,
Jaelan Brown was sacked for an 11-yard loss and brought out the kicking unit.
Burke Nettles attempted a 48-yard kick but was unsuccessful.
Taking over the at its own 31, Ferrum began to march down the field. The hosts went 69 yards over 14 plays capped off by a two-yard rushing touchdown. The extra point was good and gave them a 7-0 lead with 4:06 left in the first.
For the remainder of the quarter and majority of the second, neither team was able to get the ball into the other team's territory. With 5:19 left in the first half, the Panthers took over and drove into Guilford territory and faced a fourth-and-nine at the GC 35 with 12 seconds on the clock. Ferrum failed to convert the first down and turned it over on downs. Guilford took a knee and headed into the locker down 7-0.
To open the second half, Ferrum used 5:42 of game clock to go 86 yards in 11 plays to double its lead, 14-0.
The Quakers offensive struggles continued as they punted the ball and turned it over on downs on their next two possessions. The Panthers scored once more in the third as a 17-yard run finished off a four-play drive to lead 21-0 going to the fourth.
Both teams exchanged drives as Guilford took over at its own 20 with 8:07 left in regulation. On the first play, Brown was intercepted and setup a short field for the home team. Six plays later, Ferrum scored the final touchdown of the game to seal the 28-0 win.
Guilford returns to the Armfield Athletic Center on Saturday, October 28 to face the Hampden-Sydney Tigers. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
