Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mayer's Late Goal Lifts Guilford Over Ferrum

The Guilford College women's soccer team hosted Ferrum College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match. Following a late goal from Gracie Mayer, the Quakers bested the Panthers, 1-0.

The early stages of the half was split between the two sides holding possession in their attacking zones. Guilford had a wonderful opportunity in the 12th minute as Lily Brown chipped the ball over the keeper. Ferrum's Jadyn Patton chased down the ball and made the team save.

The game remained scoreless going into halftime. Guilford held the advantage in shots (12-3) and shots on goal (6-2).

In the second half, the Quakers maintained their control over the contest. The home team had a strong chance of scoring the first goal in the 75th minute when Gracie Mayer passed the ball into the box as Olivia Santos tried to score but the shot was saved.

Guilford kept the pressure and after a shot from Andrea Cazares-Vasquez that ricocheted off the crossbar, the ball bounced to Mayer as she buried the shot for the lone goal of the game.

The Quakers held the Panthers to no shots on goal in the second half while adding five more on target.

Guilford hits the road on Saturday, October 21 to face Randolph-Macon College. First kick is set for 1:00 p.m.
