Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Quakers Comeback Falls Just Short

The Guilford College women's volleyball team concluded their weekend trip to Virginia at Bridgewater College. The Quakers battled back to force a fifth set but ultimately fell, 3-2.

From a majority of the early stages of the first set, Bridgewater had control of the game. At one point, the Eagles held an eight-point advantage (18-10). Guilford battled back and cut the deficit to four points on multiple occasions but dropped the set, 25-20.

The second set was fairly even for the first 20 points at which point, the Eagles went on an incredible run and closed out the set, 25-10.

Down to potentially their final set, the Quakers needed to put together a strong set. The squads went back and forth as Guilford found itself up 20-17. The hosts won the next four points before they went point-for-point. Bridgewater was one point away from claiming the win (27-26) but the Quakers won the final three points with two kills by Natalie Moore. GC forced a fourth set with the 29-27 win.

A set filled with runs occurred in the fourth as each side grasped at the lead. Working through the set, Guilford was up 22-21 before a Chrisbel Alcantara kill and a Madison Duvall block helped seal the set win, 25-21, and force a fifth set.

Bridgewater and Guilford were in a tightly contested battle until the hosts slowly opened a four-point edge, 13-9. The Quakers cut the difference to two points but were unable to complete the comeback as they fell 15-11 and 3-2 overall.

Paige McDonald and Moore finished with 12 kills apiece. Maddi Page tallied 37 assists while Madison Bozarth corralled 20 digs.

Guilford hits the road on Saturday, October 21 for a tri-match in Lynchburg, Virginia. Game one is against Randolph College at 12:00 p.m., before facing Mid-Atlantic Christian University at 2:00 p.m.
