Guilford Pulls Away in Second Half from Generals

The Guilford College men's basketball team hosted Washington and Lee University Generals for an ODAC matchup. After a strong first half from the Generals, the Quakers outscored the visitors by 15 in the second half for a 78-58 win.

The half started off hot with Washington and Lee (8-6, 1-4) taking the early lead by making eight-consecutive points, 8-0. Although Guilford (11-2, 4-0) trailed behind the majority of the first half, it was able to stay on the visitors' heels with great defensive plays.

Toward the end of the half, the Quakers made a comeback to tie the score at 32 and took the lead with three minutes left on the clock. The Quakers were able to keep the lead and ended the half with a five-point edge, 39-34. 

Jorden Davis opened the second half with a good jumper for the Quakers. As both teams exchanged rebounds and turnovers, the Generals battled back and took a one-point edge (42-41) at the 16:01 mark. Guilford responded with a jumper in the paint by Myles Washington, 43-42.

Guilford slowly regained control of momentum and erupted on a 10-0 run to open a 17-point advantage (67-50). Gabe Proctor, Tyler Dearman and Julius Burch helped guide GC to the 20-point victory.

Dearman dropped 23 points with six rebounds and three assists. Proctor was next leading scorer with 21 points. Defensively, Burch added 10 rebounds while Davis finished with five assists. As a team, Guilford shot 45.3% (29-64) from the field while holding Washington and Lee to 22.6% (7-31) from the field in the second half.

Guilford will travel to Ashland, Virginia for a showdown with the second-ranked Rnadolph-Macon Yellow Jackets on Saturday, January 7. Start time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
