Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

GC Falls to 25th-ranked Tigers

The Guilford College men's basketball faced Hampden-Sydney in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. The 14th-ranked Quakers fell to the 25th-ranked Tigers, 64-57.

The Tigers started off hot by making a clean three pointer but Guilford responded with a run of their own to take the lead, 11-3. With an exchange of rebounds over the next four minutes, the Tigers broke the scoreless drought and kick started a run.

Hampden-Sydney scored 16-consecutive points over the next seven minutes to gain a 19-11 edge. Jorden Davis and Luke Proctor ended the run and pulled the Quakers within three (19-16). Both teams went back and forth but the Tigers held on for a two-point lead (26-24) at the half.

The second half was mostly Hampden-Sydney but the Quakers started off with the first three pointer of the second half by Davis, assisted by Julius Burch. As both squads battled, the hosts opened a nine-point edge (36-27).

Just under seven minutes left in regulation, the Tigers expanded its lead to 15 (48-33). Guilford tried to chip away at the difference but the gap was ultimately too large to tackle as it fell by seven.

Tyler Dearman paced GC with 16 points while Davis finished the evening with 14 points. The Quakers shot 30.2% (19-63) from the field and shot 92.3% (12-13) from the free throw line. The Tigers won the rebound battle, 41-36.

Guilford returns to Jack Jensen Court for an ODAC showdown with Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday, January 28. Start time is set for 4:30 p.m.
