Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Quakers Conclude Trip to Lexington, Virginia

The Guilford College volleyball team wrapped up its time at the Washington and Lee Invitational with matches against Marymount University and Centre College. The Quakers fell in both matches, 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.

Game 1: Marymount 3, Guilford 1

To open the match, Marymount took early control and never looked back. The Saints used a 13-0 run to open a large lead and eventually won the set, 25-10.

In the second set, both teams went back-and-forth before Marymount began to take over. The Saints had runs of three and five points to go ahead 23-15. The Quakers claimed the next point but MU won the next two to take the set, 25-16.

The exchange of points is how the third began until Guilford had two three-point runs to go ahead 21-16. The Saints responded by winning six of the next eight points to pull within one (23-22). However, a Kaci Johnson kill and an error gave GC the 25-22 set win.

The fourth set was an even battle between both teams. The Quakers eventually opened the largest lead of the set (20-16). Marymount clawed back and tied the game at 21. Both teams found themselves locked once again, this time at 23. A kill from Paige McDonald pulled Guilford within one from taking the set. Unfortunately, the Saints won four of the final five points to win the set, 27-25.

Game 2: Centre 3, Guilford 0

The first set was even between either side until Centre notched four-straight to go up 13-8. Guilford responded with a 7-2 run to even the score at 15. However, the Colonels went on a 10-1 run to close out the set, 25-16.

The second began similarly to the first with neither side gaining a lead greater than two. From there Centre slowly opened a lead until it grew to 10 points (22-12). The Quakers tried to battle back but the deficit was too large as the Colonels won the set, 25-16.

Centre grasped early control of the third and extended its lead to 12 (19-7). Guilford chipped away at the difference and used a 7-2 run to pull within three (24-21). The Colonels won the final point to win the set (25-21) and the match.

Guilford (2-6) returns to Ragan-Brown Field House for the first Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup as the University of Lynchburg visits on Wednesday, September 14. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
