The Guilford College men's lacrosse team faced the Eagles of Bridgewater College in Virginia. The Quakers grabbed the early lead but ultimately fell, 19-10.
Guilford (4-6, 2-3) and
Nick Honkomp scored the opening goal at the 12:49 mark.
Justin Barry followed with a goal just a 1:29 later with an assist from
Gabe Alvarez. Honkomp netted his second goal of the game and put the Quakers up 3-0.
Bridgewater (8-5, 3-3) scored two goals before the end of the period as GC remained ahead by one (3-2).
The second was all Eagles as they scored seven-straight goals to go in front by six ( 9-3).
Kyle Smaw ended the BC run with a goal at the 1:11 mark. At the half, the hosts led 9-4.
To open the third, Bridgewater netted three goals before
Andrew Burch found the back of the net with 8:00 remaining in the period. The Eagles scored three more goals until Burch closed the third with his second of the period.
Trailing 15-6, Barry scored the first goal of the fourth off a pass from Burch. BC extended its lead back to nine (16-7) before Honkomp and Alvarez scored back-to-back goals. The hosts added three more goals until Alvarez scored the final goal of the game.
Honkomp (3G), Alvarez (2G, 1A) and Burch (2G, 1A) finished with three points. Barry added two goals while
Wyatt Dwyer corralled seven ground balls and caused six turnovers.
Guilford travels to Lynchburg on Wednesday, April 13. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
