Softball Hosts Lynchburg on Senior Day

The Guilford College softball team stayed at home for an ODAC doubleheader against the Lynchburg Hornets. The Quakers lost both games against the Hornets, 11-2 and 11-3.

Prior to the game, the team honored three of its seniors: Caitlyn Ray, Katey Griswold and Casey Bunting.


Game 1: Lynchburg 11, Guilford 2 

The visitors started game one by scoring four runs off three hits and two errors. Guilford responded in the bottom of the first as Casey Bunting hit a single up the middle to bring home Kassidy Lancos.

The Quakers added to their total in the bottom of the second when Grace Calus scored on a RBI single from Faith Fennell.

Lynchburg expanded its lead back to three in the third with a single up the middle. In the sixth, the Hornets scored another run off a single.

In the seventh, Lynchburg added five runs on five hits including two home runs to take game one by nine (11-2).

Game 2: Lynchburg 11, Guilford 3 (6 Inn.)

The Quakers started game two with a bang. Bunting homered to center field with Ally Morales on second to put GC ahead 2-0.

Following a scoreless second and third, Lynchburg got on the board with a RBI single down the left field line.

In the bottom of the fourth, Guilford kept the momentum as Caitlyn Ray led off the inning with a solo shot over the center field fence.

Down 3-1, the Hornets tied the game in the top of the fifth on a triple and a sacrifice fly. 

Even at three, Lynchburg added eight more runs in the sixth to jump ahead 11-3. The Quakers had one one last shot in the bottom of the sixth but was unable to score.

Guilford wraps up the season with an overall record of 11-27 and 2-16 in conference play.
