GC and Bridgewater Play Two

The Guilford College softball team welcomed the Eagles of Bridgewater College for an ODAC doubleheader. The Quakers fell to the Eagles in both games, 5-3 and 9-1. 

Game 1: Bridgewater 5, Guilford 3

Bridgewater started off by scoring the first two runs in the first inning on one hit that traveled over the fence. Guilford responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Caitlyn Ray doubled to bring home Kassidy Lancos.

The Eagles grew their lead back to two (3-1) with a sacrifice fly to right in the top of the second. Ray cut the lead once more to one with a solo shot in the bottom half of the third.

After not scoring in the fourth and fifth inning, Bridgewater put up a run in the top of the sixth. The Quakers answered in its half of the sixth when Lancos singled through the right side as Casey Bunting crossed home plate.

The Eagles scored their final run in the top of the seventh and held on for the win. 

Ray finished with two hits including a home run with two RBI. Cassie Turner started on the mound and went 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.

Game 2: Bridgewater 9, Guilford 1 (6 Inn.)

The Eagles started off game two similar to game one by scoring the first two runs in the first inning.

Following their first two runs, Bridgewater added four runs in the second and two in the third to jump ahead by eight. Guilford tallied its first run in the bottom of the fourth as Lancos scored on a RBI single by Katey Griswold.

The visitors added a run in the sixth to seal the eight-run win.

Guilford (10-16, 1-5) welcomes Randolph College on Tuesday, April 5. Game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
