The Guilford College baseball team concluded its regular season series against Shenandoah University. The Quakers dropped the game to the Hornets, 14-6.
Shenandoah (12-4, 2-1) scored the first runs with a two-run homer. Later in the first, the Hornets added three runs on a hit and an error to go ahead 5-0.
The visitors scored another run in the third off a wild pitch. Guilford (3-8, 0-2) got on the board as
Colin Smith drove in
Bryce Vestal with a single.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Quakes scored two more runs off a double by
Izaac McGuire. GC kept the momentum by scoring a run in the sixth and the seventh to pull within one (6-5).
In the top of the eighth, Shenandoah extended its lead to three with two RBI singles. In its half of the inning, Guilford's Vestal grounded out but with the bases loaded,
Austin Bailey scored.
The Hornets sealed the win in the ninth as they scored six runs on five hits for the eight-run victory.
Vestal collected four hits while scoring three runs and driving in another.
Jackson Marcellus started on the mound and threw seven innings, giving up up six runs (five earned) on 11 hits and three punch outs.
Guilford travels to Randolph-Macon on Saturday, March 19. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
