GC Tames Bears

Guilford's men's basketball team hosted the first game of the Holiday Classic at home on Jack Jenson Court versus Bridgewater State University. The Quakers took down the Bears 98-45 behind an incredible second half. 

The Quakers started off hot with three three-pointers made by Jorden Davis. Guilford was able to control the momentum while holding off Bridgewater State. The Quakers found themselves up seven after raining down three-pointers. After both teams settled down, Guilford was able to keep the Bear's offense at bay, while adding to it's lead. In the first half, the Quakers had a lead of 23 but could not keep it coming into the break. The score at halftime was Quakers 46, Bears 34. 

After halftime, Guilford was able to come out even better than they started  with 12 points unanswered. From there the Quaker's defense was the highlight of the half, only allowing 11 points in the second, keeping BSU to 16% shooting. To go along with the outstanding defense, the offense was able to match their defensive intensity. This led to the Quakers scoring 42 points on 51% in the second half.  

Guilford's success came from 36 points off turnovers, 18 second-chance points, and 38 points from the bench, while holding the Bears to just five points off turnovers.

Tyler Dearman led all scorers with 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists while Davis finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Gabe Proctor and Myles Washington each finished with 14 points. 

Guilford hosts Centre College on Friday, December 30 at 3:00 p.m. for its final game of the Holiday Classic.
