The Guilford College women's volleyball team hit the road for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match against Averett University. The Quakers fell to the Cougars, 3-0.
In the opening set, both teams were evenly matched. Neither side captured a lead until Averett went on a 6-0 run to lead 17-11. Guilford eventually pulled within three (22-19) but ultimately dropped the set, 25-20.
Similar to the first, both teams went back and forth until the Quakers scored six-straight to jump ahead, 11-6. GC held the advantage until the Cougars captured a 21-20 edge. Guilford pulled within one (24-23) but a kill secured the 25-23 set win for Averett.
The third set was a seesaw affair between the two squads. Trailing by four (21-17), the Quakers rattled off three-consecutive points. However, Averett won the final four points to win the set (25-20) and the match (3-0).
Vanessa Johnson led the team with seven kills while
Maddi Page totaled 16 assists.
Guilford is set to host Washington and Lee University on Monday, October 10. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
