The Guilford College women's basketball faced the Eagles of Bridgewater in what became an Old Dominion Athletic Conference thriller. The Quakers unfortunately fell to the visitors, 48-44.
In the first period, Bridgewater (7-7, 4-3) scored on the opening shot. Guilford (4-9, 2-6) tied the game after two free throws from 
Lindsay Gauldin. Neither squad held a lead larger than one point until the Eagles scored three of the final four points to lead 12-10 going into the second.
Bridgewater increased its lead to four (14-10 and 16-12) before the Quakers took control. The home team closed the first half on a 12-2 run to lead 24-18 going into the locker room.
To start the third, the Eagles went on a run of its own as they scored 10 of the first 12 points to recapture the lead, 28-26. A Gauldin layup evened the score but the visitors, especially Erika Nettles, scored five-consecutive points lead 33-28 at the 4:29 mark.
Guilford chipped away at the difference before a steal and layup by 
Ashtyn Zeigler pulled GC within one (35-34). Bridgewater held onto the lead (39-38) as the game went to the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Back-to-back layups by Gauldin gave the Quakers a 42-39 lead with 6:48 remaining in the fourth. Over the next four minutes, the Eagles scored six points to take back the advantage, 45-42. Zeigler hit a jumper to cut the deficit to one but the visitors went 3-for-4 from the free throw line to secure the four-point win.
Gauldin paced the Quaker offense with 16 points while also corralling seven steals. Zeigler finished the day with 10 points as 
Courtney McMillan added nine points.
Turnovers haunted both teams as Bridgewater committed 27 compared to 23 for Guilford. Free throws proved vital as the Eagles went 16-22 (72.7%) while the Quakers were 8-14 (57.1%) from the stripe.
Guilford welcomes Lynchburg to town on Monday, January 24 as a rescheduled game from January 5. Start time is 7:00 p.m.
