Quakers Close out Season at Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Guilford College football team closed out its 2021 season in a road contest at Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

  • Scores: Bridgewater 43, Guilford 0

  • Records: Bridgewater 4-6 (1-5 ODAC), Guilford 1-8 (0-6 ODAC)

  • Location: Jopson Field - Bridgewater College

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • A tough day for Guilford, they trailed for the entirety of the contest. GC was down 29-0 to start the second half.

  • The highlight of the Quakers' day was able to deny the Eagles any scoring opportunities in the third quarter. They did so by owning a drive that consisted of 20 plays, covered 72 yards and ate up 8:19, coming to an end at the beginning of the fourth quarter. 

  • The long drive by Guilford featured its best scoring opportunity as Burke Nettles was set up for a 20-yard field goal attempt. Nettles' kick was blocked at 14:11 and recovered by the hosts. 

  • Bridgewater was able to put up 14 more points before time ran out on the contest, claiming a 43-0 victory.

 

TOP PERFORMING QUAKERS

  • It was James Pegues who led the Quaker defense with eight tackles, six solo and two assisted. Pegues also recorded the team's only sack on the day, one that knocked the opposition back 10 yards. He also had another tackle for a loss of two yards.

  • Trey Buie and Tyler Walker had the second-best performance on the defensive side of the ball, recording five tackles. Buie's tackles were all unassisted while Walker had three solo and two assisted.

  • Returning all the kickoffs for Guilford, Tre Alexander had five returns for 33 yards. Alexander also had one reception for three yards.

 

WHATS NEXT

As its 2021 season comes to an end, Guilford says goodbye to its 16 seniors and looks to return a roster full of Quakers ready to put in work during the off-season.
