Pfeiffer Rallies Past Guilford, 13-12, For Season-Opening Women's Lacrosse Win

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Host Pfeiffer University scored nine straight second-half goals to pull out a 13-12 women's lacrosse win over visiting Guilford College Wednesday.

The Quakers (1-2) opened an 11-4 lead on Abi Horchar's goal with 25:48 left in regulation. Afterward, five different Falcons (1-0) combined for nine straight goals, including Starnice Galloway's man-up tally with 8:49 remaining that gave the hosts their first lead since game's third minute. Startraya Galloway, who assisted on the game-winner, capped the run a little over two minutes later with her third goal of the game, which opened a 13-11 Pfeiffer advantage. Guilford's Holly Kozak closed the scoring with 62 seconds remaining.

Both Galloway sisters scored twice in the decisive run, as did Megan Bourque and Kaley Hyatt. Bourque finished with a game-best five goals. Startraya Galloway filled up the stat sheet with five points on three goals and two assists, plus seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Hyatt contributed two goals and two helpers. Starnice Galloway added two scores and six ground balls. Goalie Sam Hanlon aided the Falcons' with 13 saves.

Kozak's three goals paced Guilford's offense. She also had a game-high eight ground balls. Madison Iandoli had a club-best four points on two goals and two assists. Audrey Helfenbein and Cat Thresher also scored twice in defeat. Kersten Daneau made nine saves in goal.

Coach Charlotte Dixon's Quakers open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday (3/2) versus visiting Sweet Briar College at 1:00 p.m.
