Guilford Women's Tennis Team Blanks Greensboro, 9-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College's women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its season with a convincing 9-0 victory over crosstown-rival Greensboro College Sunday. The Quakers (1-0) won seven of nine matches in straight sets and two by forfeit as the Pride (0-2) did not field contestants in two matches.

Sophomore Katie Claggett won twice at first singles and first doubles for the Quakers. She was one of three Guilford students to win both singles and doubles. Claggett downed Sarah Drummond in singles, 6-1, 6-0, and teamed with Leigh Fishman for an 8-1 triumph over Drummond and Rachael Hamilton. Fishman claimed a 6-0, 6-2, victory at third singles over the Pride's Caroline Price. Senior captain Nora Prokosch took down Hamilton, 6-0, 6-1, and teamed with Chandler MacDonald for an 8-1 triumph over Price and Lauren Ellis.

Brooklyn Hopkins earned her first college win with a 6-0, 6-3, triumph over Greensboro's Ellis at fourth singles.  Makayla McLaurin also won her first college contest with a 6-0, 6-0, win over Hannah Clayton.

Coach Dave McCain's Quakers visit Methodist University Saturday (2/25) at 1:00 p.m.
