ASHLAND, Va. – Second-seeded Randolph-Macon College made quick work of number-seven Guilford College, 5-0, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament quarterfinal Saturday at the Banks Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets (16-1), ranked 17th in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Atlantic Region Poll, advance to the tourney semifinals to play third-seeded Roanoke College, a 5-1 winner over Bridgewater College Saturday. The semifinals and finals will take place May 7-8 at Washington and Lee University.
Randolph-Macon won each of the three doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores. Caitlin Delmas and Sid Corrigan downed Guilford's Katie Claggett and Riley Caruana at first doubles. Delmas topped Guilford's Nora Prokosch at second singles, 6-1, 6-0, before Toni McDonald claimed a 6-0, 6-0, triumph over Leigh Fishman that clinched the match.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers end the season with a 6-9 mark. He could return as many as six students in the fall and loses only Fernanda Gonzalez and Luci Gordon to graduation.
